our problem statement

Advertisement for AVI flight booking app showing a smartphone with flight price options from Indianapolis to Miami and Los Angeles, with blue background and the AVI logo at the top.

Primary and secondary research show that travelers commonly struggle with knowing when is the best time to purchase, confusing/repetitive booking screens, complicated airport mapping, and getting questions answered.

our research

A bar chart showing reasons for travel anxiety, with 'Flight delays or cancellations' as the most common at 37%, followed by 'Losing my luggage' and 'Bad weather impacting my trip' both at 28%, then 'Long security lines and checks,' and 'Fear of missing my flight,' both at 23%, among others. There is an illustration of a plane flying with clouds.

One survey stated that:

  • 44% of baby boomers say they “value
having a travel agent book an entire
    travel experience” for them

  • Only 33% of them feel comfortable
booking flights online, compared to the
    62% of the other generations.

We sought to develop an app that combined
all of our desires in an ideal travel product.

  • Reminders about the flight, updates about the
specific airport, and alerts when affordable
    flights arise

  • A chatbot that can find/book flights and
    answer questions using natural language.

  • A price tracker that keeps track of flight prices
